Abstract
OBJECTIVES: This cross-sectional study aimed to identify the significant factors that influence small and medium-sized business workers when they carry out low sodium diet.
METHODS: The data were collected by conducting a survey on 161 individuals in small and medium sized businesses who had not been diagnosed with hypertension, in Gyeonggi province. The survey tool measured their knowledge in carrying out low sodium diet and how much support they had been given from their family. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis.
RESULTS: Family support affected their implementation of the low sodium diet (t=2.981, p=.003). Similarly, the result accounted for 27.2% (R²=.272) in the regression model.
CONCLUSION: this statistical results suggest that there is a profound need of various nursing intervention programs to enhance family support and to improve their awareness of the importance of implementing low sodium diet in order to prevent hypertension in small and medium-sized business workers.
